![]() This is a great game for fans of the franchise and an ideal entry point into an under-served genre of gaming for console gamers. If you play your cards right you can get a lvl 5 heavy by end of act 1 making the boss fight a 2 turn battle and lvl 7 by end of act 2 making the boss fight another 2 turn battle.įor vanguard, prioritise free bayonet early to help flexibility with Sid then I'd suggest top right for debuffs but tbh vanguard's are the least effective class in my opinion. And for the most part, Tactics totally delivers on its promise of Gears-themed-XCOM. Lvl 2 get reckless shot and enhanced anchor, lvl 3 get catalyst and explosive shot, lvl 4 get heat up and at the ready, lvl 5 get quick overwatch and reckless shot 2, lvl 6 get slayer bottom right then lvl 7 get heat up 2 and ultra shot. Like I mentioned the game is diverse and there is no "correct" build but as you will see on YouTube grenadier scouts, paragon supports are the way to go for those classes but the others have a few ways.įor snipers, I prefer going top right for fast fingers and ultimate shot and chain shot, this maximises actions and allows you to kill multiple enemies in one turn and reload for free which is a handy mechanic.įor heavies, the only class who is massively underrated, most people will suggest purely going for an overwatch slayer build but I much prefer going for a hybrid bottom right and bottom left in a certain order makes the campaign considerably easier. On side missions you can often have negative or positive effects in play always keep an eye on these as they can catch you out. However on some side missions you receive damage due to a modifier so keep an eye on that.īoomers try to kill as fast as possible, they can knock you out of cover and apply "shellshocked" which halves your mobilty making it hard to get away from the situation. They seem to ignore cover half the time and on insane like to shoot rather than pin.ĭisciples just a harder hammerburst, don't be afraid to execute, you get poisoned but that just means you do 75% less damage with that character for 2 turns which isn't a big deal most of the time. Snipers: THEY MUST DIE, I have died multiple times to a rouge sniper shot, pretty much anytime you finish a turn with one on your screen you will die. ![]() Kantus and zealot they are annoying at times mostly because of buffs and debuffs, try and kill them quickly when they show up. Hammerburst kill with a close margin if possible to down and use for executions, they prioritise overwatch all the time so they don't hit you very often. Wretches and grenadiers keep at a distance and they are harmless, use grenades or explosive shot on groups of wretches and I like to use bayonet or chainsaw on grenadiers if it is safe to do so. I have played 4 campaigns and had different playstyles every time so do what you are comfortable with and go for it, adaptability is key. Troop management huge thing I never realised on 1st run is getting good gear from new recruits, you can get new recruits and sack them straight away but you keep all their gear which is great for getting better pistols and sometimes rare helmets which are pretty hard to get from supply cases.įor troops you want to use try and have a couple of each unit type then adapt your own playstyle. Also enemies don't approach you on sabotage, incursion or rescue missions until they are on screen so take your time to get skills back when you can. Also in control missions enemies spawn every two turns so keep that in mind and reload in between waves if you can. Time management on the back of my last point it's important to take your time and get cool downs off and regroup etc but keep an eye on your timer or red zone in scavenger missions. Isolation avoid having 1 or 2 units getting too far ahead of the squad, keep everyone close enough to cover each other in case of emergency and avoid triggering pods until you need to. These are the highest levels I've managed out of all my runs.Įxecutions are key chaining executions tactically can give you a lot of actions which provides a lot of breathing room on insane. Lvl 6-7 for act 2 mission 8 and all 7 and one 8 for act 3 mission 8. Xp efficiency get no more than 12 kills per unit if you can help it as this is the xp cap per mission.Įxecutions DO NOT give xp so if you are avoiding kills with a certain unit you can use them for executions.Īlways prioritise getting your hero's involved in side missions to have them at lvl 4-5 for act 1 mission 6 ![]() ![]() Heals are pretty useless on insane, put frags on supports they are very useful.Ībuse the interrupt mechanic, using overwatch on enemies when you can interrupt makes life much easier. ![]()
